Short Haired German Shepherd
There are two categories of German shepherds on the basis of their coat length.
- Short haired German Shepherd
- long haired German Shepherd
The German shepherd with short hair has
more actual hair than the long hair German shepherd. Short haired German shepherds are more suitable than long haired. The German shepherd is mostly in short haired. In many countries, long haired GSD are considered more appropriate for showing and breeding .But in US long haired GSD are not consider appropriate only short haired are “perfect” for them. The long haired German shepherd is few because American kennel club does not approve them. So there are only a few puppies of long haired.
German shepherd’s who have short hair can survive more easily rather than a long hair German shepherd. They have waterproof and wholly undercoat which provide them extra heat in winters. If you want some protection tasks like police work, service and assistance and military aids from your GSD then you should choose short-haired German shepherd. These GSD’s done their jobs very efficiently than long haired. They run easily due to their short hair when they saw the stranger. Temperament of these dogs is not really calm than long hair GSD.
Like advantages, there are also some disadvantages of the short haired German shepherd. In summer or hot weather, the double coat is not really suitable. They feel warm due to their double coat in summer. The long haired German shepherd is few because American kennel club does not approve them. So there are only a few puppies of long haired.
Shedding of short-haired German shepherd:
This is false concept that long hair GSD shed more than short hair GS. Short haired German shepherd sheds more than the long hair German shepherd. But their sheds can entrap within their long hair. You can see hair everywhere in the house when short coated GSD sheds. For keeping themselves cool in summer months they shed their thicker undercoat and replace this by thinner undercoat .And this process happens vice versa .Mostly shedding happen in spring and autumn. The short haired GSD is very good like other dogs
Grooming is important for the German shepherd. But short-haired German shepherd did not require more grooming. By daily brushing, you will groom your GSD. When you brush your dog daily the hair found less all over the home. As short coated GSD has short coat it is not necessary to brush hair daily.
Short haired German shepherd likes water. They deal friendly with other dogs. It is easy for them to carry anything in their mouth. They can easily open the refrigerator by watching family members .Energy is high in them so they need to walk two, three hours daily. At the age of ten, they still feel energetic and active due to their short hair. When they feel bored they start jumping or climbing. Easily they can sit in any shape. Training them is not a difficult task, they obey their owner. They learn tasks quickly. They are in Black and brown .Life expectancy is 12 to 14 years. The short haired German shepherd is good for hunting and herding.
There must be a small place indoor for your dog with toys and bed. The crate should be large so, that your dog can stand or stretch easily. Nails should be cut on the regular basis for avoiding health issues.
